MEET ELSI ENG
BIOGRAPHY
Elsi Eng is an actor with diverse talents on and off camera. She is fluent in English and Mandarin, and she can do multiple accents in both English and Mandarin with perfect pitch fluency and idiomatic ease. In addition, she is well trained in different styles of dancing (Hip-hop, Funk Jazz, Chinese Classical etc.) and martial arts (wooden sword, sais, MMA etc.).
Elsi graduated from Sir Winston Churchill Secondary in 2005 with a subject award in acting. She then acquired a degree in Psychology from the University of British Columbia in 2009. In 2010, she moved to Los Angeles, where she obtained a master's degree in “Acting for Film” at the New York Film Academy.
Elsi started modeling and shooting her first commercial “Y-Teen Star Search Promo” at the age of 16. Followed by that, she was recruited as the front-center dancer of a professional hip-hop team named “Biskitz”. Together with her crew, they performed in many Vancouver festivals. Like a beautiful butterfly, Elsi excelled at incorporating dance choreography into her theatre performances. In 2011, Elsie created her first One-Woman show, where she adapted a fairy character from classic Chinese novel Dream of The Red Chamber.
With her extensive background in dancing, Elsi went on to explore her talent in stunt choreography. She filmed two martial arts films back to back in 2012, starring in both of them. In film “Rise”, she took on the extensive training for the role “Lotus”, which required her to fight with extremely lethal weapons called Sais. In film “In the Cage”, she trained with professional MMA fighters to master her mixed martial arts fighting skills. Her dedication is rewarded by her outstanding performance on camera.
Elsi became Disney English’s shining star by working on a Disney-produced electronic storybook designed for iPad – “Disney Mandarin: Toy Story 3”. The project required a voiceover performer with an extremely unique skill set. First, she had to be a vibrant, engaging storyteller. Next, she had to be a fluent speaker of both English (Standard American dialect) and Mandarin Chinese with native-level pronunciational accuracy in both. Elsi was not just Disney English’s top choice; she was the only choice.
Elsi was also picked to voice the role Kaori, played by Lika Minamoto, opposite Asian crossover star Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Crazy Rich Asians) in the South Korean drama, Final Recipe (2013). Elsi Eng made her U.S. TV debut that same year on HBO’s True Blood as a vampire. She has also appeared in feature film Much Ado About Nothing (2010) and TV show Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D (2013), both directed by the extremely critically acclaimed Joss Whedon, who is best known for directing Marvel’s The Avengers.
